Auction or Buy It Now?
Main Post:
We’ve been selling on Ebay for many years (vintage items). We used to always sell by auction, but then it seemed like almost everything switched to Buy It Now. What do you do? Are auctions still good for selling? Buyers, do you like auctions or buy it now?
Top Comment: Auctions are best for rare or unique items of unknown value, or items in high demand, where there is likely to be a lot of interest and many competing bids to move the price. Keep in mind that in a no-reserve auction if there is only one bid, the item will sell for the opening price set by the seller, regardless of how high the bidder actually bids. For low-priced items, or items that are widely available, or where the market price is widely known and agreed on, fixed price listings may be better. If the same item is available for auction and also as a fixed price listing, the auction bidding will rarely surpass the lowest priced fixed listing still available at the time of the auction.
